A personal request from Jolon see's a locomotive come to light for his personal collection. Essentially a double cabbed DXR (Modern design).
Also arrived is a JA in FUD to replace the last. Handrail's for the diesel's is the next priority!
Post since updated ; Photos of the NZ120 Model detailed by Jolon
The DL Class designed for both NZ120 & NZ64 has finally been finished! Many thanks to Kiwirail for the blueprints allowing for some accuracy.. A first NZ120 version has been ordered in FUD & already in the printer. It should prove quite adequate!
The AK carriage has now been painted black on the window trims, the windows will be cut to size & fitted in the slot. Now I need to find a way to print the end decals, the red/yellow/grey stripes... One step at a time!

A great northern with incorrect wheel spacing to suit a K/Ka seemingly trying to "fit" in.
With winter brings more time inside for layout building, designed to showcase the deluge new train models whilst remaining portable. I used unitrack soldered together & glued to the polystyrene (1.2 x .6) supplied by Russell & trackgang. The 2 sheets of polystyrene by pure fluke happened to fit on the back seat of the jaguar & with room to spare, so it's easily transportable. The clear perspex will be shortly sourced & fitted on all sides thus preventing locos from jumping to the floor & also providing adequate protection of scenery whilst transporting. The layout is very much a work in progress, Sheet #2 has been ballasted & airbrushed with more airbrushing of oil still to come. Green bush is going to make up most of the scenery once i'm finished.
The layout will be on display along with all my nz120 models. A very first public viewing!
The show details are; 20-21 July 18th Hobby Expo, Taupo Model Rail Club, Events Centre, Spa Road, Taupo
Sheet #2, featuring the steam engine display
Sheet #2 from other end
Sheet #1, featuring a double slip thus allowing 1 or 2 trains to run.
Showing off the groundwork.
Streamlined Ka has a chassis arriving from the states enabling some doubleheading with any luck!
The Wb has a front pony truck added & couplers. The rear pony truck can't happen with the Farish & the wheel base is simply wrong anyway..
Today saw the arrival of the 3d Printed (Shapeways) Streamlined Ka, There is room for a LED at the top of the smokebox, which will allow light through the front headlight & side number boards.
After some dry brushing for highlighting the detail for the camera
A picture of the Ka after a LED fitted.
Not so prototypical, but perhaps in the future maybe Kiwirail might let Mainline Steam borrow some of them modern Ak Carriages..
After delivery today I've taken a few pics & you can see the difference between SF & SF- Polished. In terms of what your asking by manually building the sides out of styrene we will see what we can do, however I think buying a complete shell with the polished SF will keep costs resonable while presenting nice smooth sides!
Update,
After 2 coats of primer, filed down brass bogies were attached but still lacking washers to correct the height. Couplers are added & shes ready for more photos.
